WITW: "BEING A FEMALE WE ARE BORN INTO THE MINDSET OF DOING IT ALL WITHOUT EXCUSES
Our Women in the Workplace series continues with a focus on family this week. Megan Current (Mom, Wife, and Medical Sales Executive) shares her thoughts on work life balance – is it really a thing?
Join us as we continue share stories from women who seem to do it all, and do it effortlessly in style.
Q: YOU DO IT ALL. WIFE, MOM, AND WORKING PROFESSIONAL. WHAT DOES YOUR TYPICAL DAY LOOK LIKE?
"My typical day includes getting my daughter up, morning snuggles and coffee are a must because we don’t get these moments back with our babies.
I make breakfast for us and given the amount of time between breakfast and my first meeting I freshen up to some degree for the day. Normally I am rushing out the door by 9AM leaving her with the babysitter and as soon as I get in my car work starts and ends around 5PM. whatever I am not able to get done during the day I finish after dinner is made and she is in bed."
Q: WORK LIFE BALANCE. IS IT ATTAINABLE OR JUST SOMETHING WE ALL STRIVE FOR?
"I think it depends on what your view of work life balance is. I must compromise some days or else I’ll be in a frenzy and everyone suffers. Other days I feel it is attainable, but I think only because I’ve compromised on those previous days. So short answer- we just keep striving!"
Q: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE HIGHLIGHTS OF BEING A WORKING MOM?
"Seeing my daughter watch me work sets such a huge example for her. I want her to know she can be anything in the world, but hard work is not negotiable!"
Q: WHAT ARE SOME OF THE BIGGEST CHALLENGES?
"Being a female we are born into the mindset of doing it all with no excuses. Naturally we are able to multitask so well and I think I burn out much quicker when I give into this mindset and I am not in tune with what my body needs."
Q: HOW DO YOU MOTIVATE YOURSELF TO ACCOMPLISH SO MUCH IN A DAY?
"I have my daily to-do list and monthly to-dos. When I close one daily task it pushes me forward to accomplishing monthly goals and tasks."
Q: TIPS ON HOW TO BALANCE PRIORITIES FOR OTHER WORKING MOMS?
"Family first. Above all your family needs you more than that one customer who is complaining about a minuscule problem. Prioritize having your family taken care of first and then move onto the most important tasks at work. It’s easier to think through problems at work when you know your home life is set."
Q: WHAT DOES BEING A WOMAN IN THE WORKPLACE MEAN TO YOU, AND HOW DO YOU ASPIRE TO GROW AND DEVELOP YOUR CAREER?
"Being in a mostly male-dominate work force I am often looked at as a fish out of water when presenting to a group of business men. But the outcomes send me over the moon especially knowing that women didn’t always have the opportunities I have, that women have now."
"I don’t take it lightly and have great pride and dare I say more pride than our counterparts. I hope to continue on the path I am to move into a higher position within my career and show women that you have every potential you allow yourself to hold."
Q: HOW WOULD YOU DESCRIBE YOUR STYLE IN-OFFICE AND AFTER WORKING HOURS?
"In office I definitely gravitate towards the 50’s office wear- high waisted slacks, silk tops, natural palates with a pop of color whether it be my shoes or a hair scarf. After hours you will always find me in yoga pants, cut off shorts, a crop top or oversized sweatshirt. I also love a satin dress or midi skirt."
Q: WHAT ARE SOME OF YOUR INTERESTS OUTSIDE OF WORK AND A FEW THINGS YOU DO TO RELAX AND ENJOY LIFE?
"I love to cook! I used to be a private chef so I enjoy being creative in the kitchen and making charcuterie boards for that creative side of my brain. Exercise is also a must to relax! HIIT workouts in the yard or gym make my day flow so much better!"
Q: WHAT'S YOUR FAVORITE THING ABOUT THE NEW NAKED FEET FLOW SLIDES AND HOW DO YOU SEE THEM WORKING INTO YOUR LIFESTYLE
"These sides fit right into my work vibe but also transition nicely into the weekend wear with my cut off shorts and dresses. The leather is so soft and my feet melt right into the soles! One of my favorite additions to my closet this season!"
Thanks so much for joining us Megan and inspiring us to feel like anything is possible.
